Similar to GFP, eGFP (enhanced Green Fluorescent Protein) can be used as a reporter gene. eGFP can be chosen over GFP if a higher intensity of the fluorescent proteins is preferred. Although similar maturation times, eGFP has a higher photostability than GFP which makes it suitable for timelapse microscopy.
